Us Open Iska World Martial Arts Championships Chip Townsend
On Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 some of the best breakers in the world gathered at the Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida to compete caput to head for the take a chance to become an "ISKA World Champion". The ISKA World Breaking Championships at the US Open up is the height of breaking competition. For competitive breakers, the US Open is the just event where breaking receives international ESPN coverage, which adds even more prestige to the titles. Those who have the title of Earth Champion receive a coveted ISKA Championship Chugalug. This championship is invitation only and not open up to the full general public. In club to compete, competitors must qualify through competition or receive approval from the breaking director.
The championships consist of four events, iii-Directional Woods, Concrete Arm, Concrete Kick, and Creative.
The day began with lightweight iii-Directional Wood Strikes, starting with Mike Thomas, who won the Friday USBA qualifiers. Mike Thomas broke 17 of 25 boards, putting him in tertiary. ISKA newcomer, Parker Moody, broke eighteen of 25, placing him in second. Defending ISKA World Champion, Justin Cuellar, retained the title, breaking 18 of 18 boards. For the heavyweights, ISKA newcomer Connor Cognac, the Fri USBA qualifier winner, started the division off potent, breaking 24 of 28 boards and finishing 2nd place. Larry Fields earned third place by breaking 22 of 24 boards. The defending ISKA Globe Champion, Steve Fisher, successfully defended his title breaking 24 of 24 boards.
Next upwardly was Power Concrete Arm/Hand divisions with the lightweights upwards first. Ed Murawski, the USBA qualifier winner, came in tertiary past breaking vii of ten concrete slabs. Justin Cuellar earned 2nd by breaking xi of 12. Defending ISKA World Champion, Ken Goodrich secured his title for another year past breaking xi of 11. For the heavyweights, Scott Badesole, the qualifier winner, started the sectionalisation off by breaking eight of 12, placing him in 2d. Kyle Johnson earned third place with eight of 12 concrete slabs broken. Defending ISKA Globe Champion, Larry Fields, took the championship home once once again past breaking 10 of 10 slabs.

The last power division of the tournament was Power Physical Kicking, starting once again with the lightweights. Ed Murawski broke ten of 10 after winning the qualifier the day before, putting him in 3rd. Sean Cumberbatch broke 11 of xiii slabs placing him in second. Parker Moody bankrupt 12 of 12 concrete slabs securing him his first ISKA Earth Breaking Championship title and matching the ISKA World Record for the effect. For the heavyweight division, Larry Fields broke 10 of 12 slabs, putting him in third. Kyle Johnson broke 11 of xiii, earning 2nd. Tim Steele bankrupt 12 of 14 slabs with a spin back kicking earning him his kickoff ISKA Globe Breaking Championship.
Following the Men's Power Divisions was the US Open up Women's Creative Division. This division was not sanctioned past the ISKA this year, however, it however featured globe class level competition. Kandice Simpson earned second place with a score of 49.39. Robin Cuellar won the US Open Title with a score of 49.45.
The final effect of the day was the Creative Breaking Championship. This division allows for competitors to create their own routine, breaking anything that has the potential to interruption, as long every bit information technology is deemed safe (no fire or broken glass). Creative Breaking, dissimilar the power divisions, is scored by a panel of judges, rather than solely off material broken. Cuellar earned a full of 65 points throughout the competition. Larry Fields came in 2nd with a total of 46 points. Parker Moody had a total of forty points placing third. Ken Goodrich came in fourth with a total of 28 points. Daniel Edgeman finished fifth with 15 points.
